Spelling Out Art

As a graphic designer, June Corley always enjoyed “playing with type.” Now as a sculpture artist, June continues her playing, but instead of using the meanings that letters symbolize to compose her designs, she uses the forms of the letters themselves to create unique assemblages. Five years ago, she began using her extensive collection of vintage letters and typography to create her artwork full time. The whimsical pieces bring together a vast array of letters and discarded found objects into playful faces and animals. The best and most playful of her pieces happen organically. “When a sculpture is successful,
it’s usually because I’ve managed to stay out of the way,” June says.
